Hi! My name is Marissa Kent and I would love to help you live a life you love. I have over nearly 15 years experience in the mental health field working with individuals to address a range of concerns including depression; anxiety/stress; and relationship issues. I got into the field of counseling because I love helping people. My approach in counseling is an eclectic mix; the specifics of how I work with each individual is as unique as the individual themselves. My goal is to empower you by highlighting the strengths you already possess and give you additional tools needed to accomplish your goals.

My philosophy is that EVERYone is doing the best they can with what they have - skills; knowledge; insight; etc. Let's see what we can add to make your life better. My degrees are in Psychology and Social Work; and I have been practicing for about 14 years with groups and individuals. On a personal note; I've lived in different cities across the US; but Louisiana is my home where I now live with my wife of 17 years; our 10yo son; plus a dog; a cat; and two Guinea pigs; all rescues. I am drawn to mental health by my natural empathy and desire to help people live better lives. You're not alone; I can help.

My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating anyone with respect; sensitivity; and compassion; and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. I view counseling as a collaborative relationship in which the client and I work together to explore the current problematic issues and develop goals to address these issues. It takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you. I look forward to working with you!

Very experienced therapist. Practice is now limited to couples and sexual issues. Focus is on future behavioral change and providing couples and the individual with the tools to help themselves long-term. After a brief; 6 to 7 minute individual session; clarifying mutually agreed on goals; couples counseling together can commence. Education and homework are assigned between sessions. Usual length is 5 to 7 sessions. Compulsive sexual behavior (eg. porn addiction) is also a specialty. Routine feedback on what is or is not working Grandfather;/ therapist supervisor/mentor/ bridge and pool player.
