Are there contracts?
No, you can cancel your Talkspace plan or membership at any time. If you pay out-of-pocket you’ll pay by the month (unless you choose a quarterly or biannual plan) but can cancel any time before your renewal date.
Does Talkspace offer discounts?
People who pay out-of-pocket (without insurance) may be able to save on therapy by selecting a quarterly or biannual plan, to receive 10–20% savings. For psychiatry, Talkspace may offer bundle pricing, which allows you to purchase multiple sessions at a reduced rate.
Occasionally, Talkspace offers promotional discount codes for people joining for their first month of therapy and paying out-of-pocket. If you receive a discount code from a Talkspace partner or from a promotional offer, complete the signup process until you reach the Review Details page, then look for a field labeled Apply a Coupon.
What if I don’t use my live session credits?
Live session credits cannot be rolled over from month to month.
How do I add insurance later?
If you have a new insurance plan that covers Talkspace it’s easy to switch from self-pay to paying with insurance. Simply go to your Account page and click on “Update my coverage,” then select “Add or change insurance.” You’ll be prompted to add your insurance information so your health insurance plan can cover your care going forward.
Can I switch between therapy and psychiatry?
Therapy and psychiatry are separate services, and you can sign up for one or the other, or both simultaneously. Therapy is provided by licensed therapists, and psychiatry is provided by psychiatrists or licensed psychiatry providers, medical practitioners who are able to prescribe medication. If you sign up for both therapy and psychiatry through Talkspace your two providers can share notes with each other on your treatment, if you choose.
How does individual therapy from Talkspace work?
Once you answer a few questions about your therapy needs and preferences you’ll be matched with a dedicated therapist who is licensed in your state of residence who we think will be a good fit. Your therapist will provide personalized, high-quality therapy through real-time live sessions (video, audio, or live chat), or messaging therapy, or both, depending on your plan.
Messaging sessions are asynchronous, meaning that you and the provider don't communicate in real-time. However, you’ll have access to your private virtual therapy room 24/7, so you don’t have to wait to share what’s on your mind. You can send text, video, or voice messages to your provider anytime something comes up. You can expect to hear back from your therapist within one working day, during their business hours, five days per week.
Live sessions are pre-scheduled virtual appointments with your provider to meet for an audio, video, or chat session at a designated time. You can book your live sessions easily online and they take place through your secure Talkspace account.
How does couples therapy from Talkspace work?
To sign up for couples therapy through Talkspace, only one member of the couple needs to subscribe, and that person can pay with their insurance or other benefits, if couples therapy is covered. Couples can be together or in separate places/on separate devices for their scheduled virtual sessions. Couples therapy is covered by many insurance plans and by some employers, but if you pay out-of-pocket it costs $436 per month, and the out-of-pocket plan includes four live sessions and unlimited messaging with your provider.Additional live sessions can be purchased for $65 per session.
How does teen therapy from Talkspace work?
Teen therapy is available to teens ages 13-17, and works similarly to individual therapy for adults with the exception that teens must get a parent or guardian consent to receive therapy (parent consent regulations vary by state). The teen’s sessions are confidential and protected under HIPAA privacy laws, though therapists may share safety concerns with the parent or guardian if necessary. Teen therapy is covered by most insurance plans, including TRICARE, and covered directly by some employers, municipalities, and school districts. Out-of-pocket prices are $69–$99 per week depending on the plan selected. If they pay out-of-pocket, parents can request invoices for FSA/HSA, or out-of-network reimbursement.
How does psychiatry and medication management from Talkspace work?
You can sign up for Talkspace Psychiatry at any time, with no referral needed. After answering a few questions you’ll be paired with a licensed psychiatry provider and can schedule a virtual video appointment. During this video appointment you’ll receive a psychiatric evaluation, a diagnosis (if applicable), and a prescription for mental health medication, if medically appropriate. Your Talkspace provider will send your prescription to a pharmacy of your choice.
Talkspace is in-network with most major insurance plans and will bill your insurer directly for your care. The average copay for insured members is only $15. If you pay out-of-pocket your initial appointment with a Talkspace psychiatric provider will cost $299. Every three months you’ll have a follow-up appointment and prescription renewal and these cost $175 when you pay out-of-pocket.
If you are prescribed medication you’ll pay for it directly at the pharmacy of your choice.
